Make it yourself: DIY and accessory tips for VW Bus & California

Which camping accessory is the most beautiful?

For me, it's the one that's ingeniously devised and then built by oneself.

For you too?

I share my experiences, from more than 10 years of practical camping with our VW California, including family trips across Europe, in my blog.

In addition to guides for optimizing conversions and self-conversions, I regularly add further tests of camping accessories and news about the VW Bus California and other campervans.

Need more inspiration?

In short profiles, I link you to newly discovered custom converters and innovative van accessories.

For little snippets from our #buslife with family, follow us and become part of the VANZEIT ® Family on Instagram. Even easier: The newsletter serves them directly to your inbox.

It's your taste, your van, your equipment.

Head over to expert knowledge from firsthand bus camper experience in the blog.

Which basic equipment should not be missing in the micro camper?

Being appropriately equipped makes the first camping vacation much more relaxed.

For example, bedding, cooking utensils, plates, cups, etc. can be easily supplemented from the household for the first vacations.

Which camping accessories have proven themselves from the very beginning for us?

You can find our tips for the basic equipment of the VW Bus Camper in this post.

Many of the camper basics, hygiene equipment for the trip, kitchen accessories, etc., van equipment for everyday life on the road, car care, recipes for the mobile kitchen, travel inspiration, ... can also be found in Amazonia (aka Amazon Store), and without much prose from me around it, right here.

Which van accessory has proven to be the best?

Nicole and I are now in the second decade of Bulli camping. Some accessories have made it into the van twice, some equipment has been with us from the start.

In addition to our proven equipment and camping setup in VW California Ocean / Comfortline / Coast and Beach, I also show you where each individual item is stored in the VW bus and how we use it.

Bonus: a list of all the accessories we use while camping.

Off-Road, Off-Grid: What is the camper electrical setup do I need to be self-sufficient?

The answers to the following questions will help you:

Do you want to stand freely from the power grid for several days?

In what steps do you achieve the suitable electrical setup for you specifically?

Which components such as battery, charge controller, solar panels, etc. are needed?

What power can realistically be accommodated in the existing vehicle?

Planning is made easier for you by an interactive diagram of your camper's electrical system.

Nicole and I have tested the planning steps for energy-independent VW Bus camper electrical systems and what results you can expect.
